How To Make A Carved Pumpkin In Minecraft (5 Easy Steps!)

It doesn’t have to be Halloween for you to want to make a festive carved pumpkin in your Minecraft game. Luckily, you can carve a pumpkin in the game at any time – and it’s super easy to do.

So, if you’re looking for something fun to do, then we’ve got everything you need to know on getting yourself a carved pumpkin (or two) the next time you’re playing Minecraft to pass the time.

What You Need

First things first – you can’t just make a carved pumpkin out of thin air! And you can’t just magic the carvings into the flesh of the orange squash.

So, there are a couple of things that you will need to have in your inventory before you can carve a pumpkin in the game. Here’s what you need:

• a pumpkin
• a pair of shears

Yup, that’s it – just those two things are all that you need in the inventory. So, now what?

Below is our tutorial on how to carve a pumpkin in Minecraft. And don’t worry – these steps work in every version of the game, so don’t worry about if it will work in your version.

So, get ready to carve up some pumpkins so you can decorate your base.

Steps To Carve A Pumpkin In Minecraft

So, you’ve decided to get into the Halloween spirit by locating a pumpkin patch to get yourself the pumpkin and you have the shears ready to carve. Here’s exactly how you take transform that regular pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern style pumpkin.

1. Find Some Pumpkin Seeds

I know this seems like an obvious one, but finding a pumpkin is going to be the most difficult part of all this. This is because you’re gonna need to find some pumpkin seeds and turn them into a pumpkin patch, like in the image above.

Luckily, there are lots of places in the game where you can find those seeds and plant that pumpkin patch.

Where can you find pumpkin seeds in Minecraft? You can find them in the wild, in mine shaft chests, and in dungeon chests.

Don’t worry if you can’t find any pumpkin seeds, because below we’ll tell you where to find already grown pumpkins.

2. Get A Pumpkin

There are actually two different ways that you can get a pumpkin. You can either craft one from your seeds, or you can find one that is already grown. We’ll give you tips for both options.

Crafting a pumpkin from seeds: Till the soil with a hoe, then just tap the soil with the pumpkin seeds. You can use Bone Meal to accelerate the growth of the seeds.

Find a pumpkin: You can find pumpkins in the Extreme Hills or Plains biomes, woodland mansions, snowy taiga villages, some shipwreck supply chests, and the taiga.

3. Use The Shears To Carve

Now that you’ve either grown a pumpkin from seeds, or found on already grown, it’s time to carve that baby up. You should already have shears in your inventory to do this part.

So, first equip your shears by selecting them in the hotbar. Once the shears are equipped, you need position your pointer (plus sign) on the pumpkin and then right-click on your pumpkin. (if you’re on mobile, do the equivalent of a right-click.)

Once you do this, the pumpkin has been carved! Congratulations – it’s now ready to be used as decorations.

You’ll also notice that four pumpkin seeds have been dropped, so you can use those to grow more pumpkins. So, be sure to add those seeds to your inventory.

4. Dig Up That Carved Pumpkin!

Now that you’ve carved it all up, there’s one important thing left for you to do. You gotta dig that baby up.

You can do this on a computer by left-clicking on the pumpkin. It varies how you do this with other versions, such as tapping on it with the PE version.

And you dig it up, you’ll see the carved pumpkin break up and a smaller version of it will hover or float above the ground.

 

5. Quick, Pick It Up!

Now that you’ve dug up that carved beauty and it’s hovering above the ground, you gotta actually pick it up. And you’ve got to be quick about it before it disappears on you.

You will know that you’ve successfully picked it up once you see it appear in your hotbar.

Bonus tip: Make it a jack-o-lantern by going to a crafting table or your inventory and placing your pumpkin in the squares with a torch directly below it.

Now, go out there and carve up some pumpkins so it will look like Halloween all the time at your base!
